Smartech Features

MONITORING

• All commands issued to the switch, and all information reported from the switch can be displayed on the screen for easy access.

• Immediate ability to scroll back, up to 25 pages, with ability to easily access & review all information.

• Customized logs can be created of all alarms or messages of specific types during a specified time range.  These can be created to capture information beginning with upcoming messages, as well as existing information previously stored in the master log files.

LOGGING

• Customized logs can be created for all alarms of specific types during a specified time range as well as for existing information.

MULTI-PORT OEM DEVICE MONITORING (NT version only)

• Support for logging multiple serial ports connected to devices to log files, which allows other devices in the central office to be monitored & logged for local/remote access. 

EDITOR

• Can create/change logs, files or scripts except the Master Log.

• Provides search, search & replace, blocking, copying & printing functions.

MESSAGE COUNTER

• Can determine which messages to be counted.

• Results can be output on screen, printer, log or any combination.

• Report can be formatted to display messages and count periods from minutes to years. (DMS-10 only)

CLI SEARCH

• With approximate date & time, Smartech will find the call(s) and generate a report.

SECURITY FEATURES

• Smartech’s can be configured to receive calls only from pre-defined terminals.

• Varying levels of security are available to restrict access to some system features from personnel. MESSAGE DICTIONARY

• The on-line dictionary eliminates the task of reaching for the message manual.

• The user can add, delete or customize messages.  (DMS-10 only)

LOCAL/REMOTE PRINT

• While connected to another Smartech, you can elect to print at either site.

DIRECT CONNECT

• Communication is possible between Smartech’s located at the same location by direct cable.

TYPING ASSISTANTS

• “Hot Keys” allow quick entry of commands that are frequently used with a single keystroke.

• “Command Recall” allows commands to be repeated, to correct typos & reissue commands without the need to manually re-type.

Is a Smartech right for you?

Are you having an increased number of alarm messages occurring during a specific timeframe?  If so, can you determine the cause easily?

Smartech answer – Smartech’s can do alarm counting.  You can request the number of specific alarms during a particular timeframe and compare those to the number from another timeframe to easily determine if the problem is getting worse.

Have you ever had a case where your translation tables aren’t working properly?  Do the tables seem different than normal?

Smartech answer – With a Smartech, you can establish who made changes to the translation tables, when they were made and the exact details of the alterations.

Are you swamped with paper printouts and supplies?

Smartech answer – Smartech’s store all information electronically.  When needed, you have the ability to print specific information.  Otherwise, the costly, messy printouts are eliminated, as well as the need to purchase a massive quantity of paper and ribbon.  In addition, the storage space required to house mountains of paper is no longer necessary.

Are there times when an alarm occurs or your have problems at a central office that is unmanned?

Smartech answer – Smartech’s will save alarm information, contact another Smartech, or a person on a voice line to announce the alarm occurrence.  A craftsperson can then dial into the system using a remote Smartech to review alarm information.  You can then make the determination whether you must travel to the site or if resolving the problem can be as simple as issuing a command.

When upgrading your Northern Telecom Switches, how long do you usually wait for the image tapes to be created for you?  How much does it cost?

Smartech answer – Instead of waiting 4 weeks for an expensive image tape to be created, Smartech can create a tape that provides the same functionality in just 4 HOURS at a nominal fee.
